Recently, we received an update from 2017 collegiate gold medalist from the Seattle International Piano Competition, Artem Kuznetzov.
SIPC represents a fantastic opportunity for any young pianist who is trying to establish his/her career. Not only does it give the opportunity to perform in a beautiful venue in front of a world recognized jury, it also provides great prizes. Most importantly for me were the opportunities to get to know personally the jury members, which led to collaborations and performances starting from the next year after the competition and that still keeps happening to this day. I think the performance opportunities provided are the most important and valuable for young musicians who are trying to kick start their career.
I think the blind jury process is a great evaluating solution that SIPC came up with. I believe it makes music the priority, cutting out all the other factors that can be a distortion in the evaluating process.
The application process was very smooth and easy, which makes it accessible to apply for all the young musicians.
Since winning the SIPC my music journey has been very exciting. It took me to many different cities and countries, performing solo, with orchestras and chamber music. I also was featured in several radio stations in the US including “Texas Public Radio” in San Antonio and “King FM” in Seattle. I was actively involved in musical outreach for under-served communities, as well as educational events for young musicians with more than 10 outreach recitals in Texas and Washington, and gave more than 35 presentations and masterclasses for elementary, middle and high school students. My first LP on the “Orpheus Classical” label was released on all the major streaming platforms, followed by a second album released on decentralized music streaming service “Audius” making him the first classical pianist that is streaming on a blockchain.
