2019 SEATTLE INTERNATIONAL PIANO COMPETITION
The Eighth bi-annual Seattle International Piano Competition will take place at Benaroya Hall on October 12 – 14, 2019. Thirty-seven international finalists were chosen from among 300 applicants. These top participants — nationals of Canada, China, Russia, South Korea, Thailand, and from throughout the USA — compete for cash prizes and medals.
The Seattle Int’l Piano Festival & Competition (SIPF) is the only such event in the Pacific Northwest attracting international pianists of all ages to present their art for local audiences.
The SIPF was recognized by The Wall Street Journal in 2010 as one of the most inclusive competitions currently on the world’s stages. Categories for youth, adult, professional, and college-age performers create a wide array of soloists. The SIPF is also one of the only competitions conducted by a blind jury.
The Purpose of the SIPF is to bring to Seattle the best aspiring artists from the world, and to provide one of the fairest opportunities for these artists to receive recognition. An international panel of judges are seated behind a screen in Illsley Ball Nordstrom Recital Hall at Benaroya Hall to ensure the most unbiased assessment of each performer.
THE SIPF NEEDS YOUR HELP!
The SIPF invites the audience to help by participating in awarding the competition’s many performing guests. In each category of the competition, the audience local area music teachers can cast votes for their favorite pianist. The top winner in each category receives a special prize for Audience Favorite or Teachers’ Favorite.
